I should have set up my first list back in 2005 when I started my first blog. I’ve had a subscription to Aweber for several years and I’ve only halfheartedly put code snippet on my various sites over the years.
Can you imagine what my business would look like if I started a list properly from the beginning?
One never can predict how things would have turned out, but I bet my finances would look a lot differently if I did.
Now, I’ve decided to finally, nearly ten years later, do things right. I am going to set up my email marketing list properly.
This is what I consider a successful list:
- Making sure my readers understand that my emails will contain quality information.
- Giving something away for free just for signing up.
- Using the list as a place to give people exclusive updates and deals on any of my products.
I set this blog up for two reasons. One, I want it to be a space where I can inspire and motivate people as I set goals and achieve them. Two, it’s a way for me to “pay it forward” and share what I learn. My list will go right along with this philosophy.
My Marketing List Goals
Here is a quick rundown of my immediate goals.
- Prepare a valuable, free download as a thank you for signing up.
- Achieving my first 100 subscribers within the first 2 weeks.
- My ultimate goal is to have 5000 list members by December 2014.
- Write at least one email per week for my list members.
I am not sure if my goals are realistic or not because I am not sure what kind of pace I can expect for signups. But, to me, they seem perfectly doable so that’s all that matters. I’ll keep you posted.
