When social networking first started, I didn’t embrace it. By the time I signed up at Myspace, the trend was over. When I took my freelance writing business online, Myspace was just a memory and Facebook was the up and coming superstar. So, I got a Facebook account and never looked back.
Over time, I realized that social networking is a vital part of any business marketing strategy. So, I thought I’d share a list of my all time favorite social networks.
- Twitter. I loved Twitter from the beginning. It is simple to execute and it’s easy to build a following.
- Facebook. As much as I hate to admit it, Facebook is useful for business purposes. I just wish that Facebook allowed us to have a separate account for personal use and for business.
- Linkedin. This is a great social site for professionals. This is the ideal place to build relationships with other businesses.
I am sure you noticed that I left both Google + and Reddit out of this. I barely use Google+ so I have no idea if it works for me. And, concerning Reddit, I just signed up for it yesterday so I am not sure if I like it yet. I’ll keep you posted.
Each of these sites has different strategies that enhance their effectiveness. The general rule is, though, that participating in the social networks isn’t about expecting people to click on our links and give us traffic to our sites. We need to participate in a genuine way.
I would love to hear your thoughts. What is your favorite social networking site?
I think I spend way to much time on Facebook lol! Linkedin I posted on that sight one time and got slammed by some crazy person it took me all day to figure out how to delete my post and I’ve never posted on there again. So I’m sticking to the places that are nicer. 😉
You got harassed by a crazy person on Linked in? I am so sorry to hear that! My particular weakness is Twitter. I LOVE tweeting about random things that happen in my day. I’ve had to limit my time there so that I can actually get stuff done!
